Tell us about IBISWorld.
IBISWorld is a global information company focusing on objective industry research and risk for the United States, China and Australia. More specifically, we analyze competitive conditions that influence the health, performance and operating conditions that make an industry unique.
How would you describe your coverage?
IBISWorld’s core content consists of original industry research reports covering more than 700 US industries, 500 Australian industries and an expanding collection of Global Industry and China industry reports. Each report is benchmarked at a granular industry level and more than 50% of our reports are updated 3x or more a year.
Supplemental content includes quantitative industry risk scores, an environmental database of key business and consumer conditions that influence specific industries and our forecast outlook for the same industries. In addition, there are reports on Australia’s Top 2000 Companies.
What makes content unique?
We provide insightful, consistent and comparable analysis across more industry sectors than any single source. Our focus on competitive conditions within an industry is also unique. Where financial firms focus on industry profitability and market research firms focus on individual products, IBISWorld addresses both topics and approximately 30 other market factors that influence industry operations and company strategy.
What are some typical uses for IBISWorld content?
Clients can quickly understand a single industry yet also understand it’s sensitivities to other forms of business activity and the external (economic) environment. Users can also benchmark specific companies to relevant industry conditions and assess performance across a portfolio of industries.
For commercial banking and leasing, investment banking and M&A advisory, our resources are applicable for business development, financial analysis / valuations / due diligence and risk management. Within other professional service and consulting organizations and manufacturers, we support strategic marketing and planning. Lastly, procurement professionals use us to better understand and monitor the health and conditions affecting key suppliers.
What might surprise your customers to learn about IBISWorld?
While the use of individual reports is still a mainstay of our business, more clients are engaging our content to look at conditions across multiple industries. The ability to identify industries across common attributes and sensitivities takes full advantage of our breath of coverage and allows clients greater insight into the connectivity of industries.
How have the current economic conditions, regulatory environment, credit crunch etc. impacted your market?
In many respects, change is good for our business since it stimulates uncertainty surrounding industry performance and health. Since our content is a blend of quantitative analysis and qualitative research, we have a lot of flexibility in responding to these new and changing conditions (as well as some that are yet to appear).
