RSS still needs help to be mainstream.
NewsGator, arguably the leader in enterprise RSS solutions, keeps rolling out product enhancements. I have to believe the NewsGator folks are listening to customers and are delivering products designed to meet customer’s enterprise RSS needs. However, based on Alacra’s annual survey results, few of those customers appear to be at sell-side financial institutions or professional service firms. While several of our clients use Factiva Track Folders, and Factiva has had a partnership in place with NewsGator for about a year, the majority of our customers are not (knowingly) receiving RSS and do not seem to have an RSS strategy in place. Historically, financial institutions and professional service firms have been leaders in the deployment of new information technologies; with RSS it seems as if everyone is doing their own thing or nothing at all.
