While I like the tool otherwise, you can't dismiss the pricing issue...it is the most important issue, in my opinion. John dismisses it too as if it doesn't matter. Just because you can't get better prices from publishers doesn't mean users are willing to buy the content.
The examples I mentioned in my post were BOTH available for free on their respective website.
A better implementation would be bundling in a free search engine along with the real premium sources...in my opinion, this will eaither make or break this service.

One interesting way to add value to the store is a rating & popularity mechanism that can give feedback on the quality of the content you make available. I might have less objection to purchasing content if the same bit of research has been purchased multiple times and has been given a high score by those that have purchased it.

I'd like to 2nd Rafat's comments and say that perhaps even considering a service like PubSub as a nice companion service that could help bring people back to the Alacra Store more often. As well, I believe that PubSub may be looking into creating a search product which might be the perfect complement to the Alacra service.
