I hobbled home from my own basketball game last night and watched Steve Nash accept the NBA MVP award. Aside from being thrilled a point guard won the award, I thought back to July when I read one of the best blog postings of all time - Mark Cuban (owner of the Mavericks) explaining in intricate detail how and why he had to let Nash leave Dallas and go to the Suns. At the time I thought if there were a dozen blog postings like this everyday there would be no time for newspapers. And I also thought if Nash stayed healthy and played well for the Suns, it's great that Cuban had used the opportunity to communicate with his fans what his decision process was.

I thought the Cuban post was one of the best I had seen, as well. What a great way to communicate to the 20,000 people who pay to sit in your arena every night... Many sports fans are willing to read an expanded explanation to the owner, and those that do are likely to be satisfied by the explanation, and to take the lead in explaining the rationale to their fellow fans, due to their status as "insiders."

I agreed with Cuban's decision and appreciated the blog and it's good he did the blog right away and not after Steve Nash went onto to win MVP.
e.g. Nash was injury prone, and while a rare throwback point guard he was not the leader of that Dallas team maybe because his salary wasn't of a leader I don't know.
I also agree with Steve Nash's decision not to blog and thought it was wise for him to leave blogging to Paul Shirley.
Side note: as great as Steve Nash was, and has become, the Mavericks were very good to him, besides spending more than any team on coaching per player, also never threatening his starting role by acquiring a really (too) good back up point guard, the Mavericks played an offense that suited steve and dirk's strengths and not forcing them to fit some coaches' offense or the spurs offense.
